Adding a custom field to a resource

By default, you can add a custom field of type text, number, text area, dropdown nd accordion. You can contact us if you want support for additional custom field types in your portal.

Adding a text type custom field

Text type custom field is useful for storing small input for single-line text. You can add a text type custom field to any resource by following these steps:

  1. From your list of custom fields against any resource, click on the button Add Custom Field and select Text
  2. Specify the attributes for your text custom field:
    1. Field Label: This is the name of your custom field as shown on the resource’s form
    2. Field Help Text: This is the help text that will appear for this field
    3. Hidden: Enable this toggle button if you want to hide this field from the resource form
    4. Required: Enable this toggle button if you make this field necessary to be filled on resource form
    5. Read Only: Enable this toggle button if you want this field to be uneditable from the resource form
    6. Validation Pattern: Specify a regular expression if you want this field’s data to follow a pattern
    7. Character Limit: Specify the maximum number of characters that this field can hold
    8. Default Value: Specify the value that appears by default in this field
    9. Placeholder Text: This text will appear in the text field bar as a placeholder
  3. After you have specified the necessary details, click Create
  4. A success notification will appear that your field has been added and you will be able to see it at the end of the list. You can also navigate to this resource’s form and see how this field appears.

Adding a number type custom field

Number type custom field is useful for selecting and storing from a range of numerical values. You can add a text type custom field to any resource by following these steps:

  1. From your list of custom fields against any resource, click on the button Add Custom Field and select Number
  2. Specify the attributes for your number custom field:
    1. Field Label: This is the name of your custom field as shown on the resource’s form
    2. Field Help Text: This is the help text that will appear for this field
    3. Hidden: Enable this toggle button if you want to hide this field from the resource form
    4. Required: Enable this toggle button if you make this field necessary to be filled on resource form
    5. Read Only: Enable this toggle button if you want this field to be uneditable from the resource form
    6. Minimum Value: Specify the smallest number that this field can hold
    7. Maximum Value: Specify the largest number that this field can hold
    8. Step Size: Specify the difference of values between the numbers when you navigate with carrets in this field
    9. Default Value: Specify the value that appears by default in this field
  3. After you have specified the necessary details, click Create
  4. A success notification will appear that your field has been added and you will be able to see it at the end of the list.

Adding a text area type custom field

Text area type custom field is useful for storing paragraph input for multi-line text. You can add a text area type custom field to any resource by following these steps:

  1. From your list of custom fields against any resource, click on the button Add Custom Field and select Text Area
  2. Specify the attributes for your text area custom field:
    1. Field Label: This is the name of your custom field as shown on the resource’s form
    2. Field Help Text: This is the help text that will appear for this field
    3. Hidden: Enable this toggle button if you want to hide this field from the resource form
    4. Required: Enable this toggle button if you make this field necessary to be filled on resource form
    5. Read Only: Enable this toggle button if you want this field to be uneditable from the resource form
    6. Character Limit: Specify the maximum number of characters that this field can hold
    7. Default Value: Specify the value that appears by default in this field
    8. Placeholder Text: This text will appear in the text field bar as a placeholder
  3. After you have specified the necessary details, click Create
  4. A success notification will appear that your field has been added and you will be able to see it at the end of the list.

Adding a dropdown type custom field

Dropdown type custom field is useful when you have multiple options for a field, out of which one can be selected. You can add a dropdown type custom field to any resource by following these steps:

  1. From your list of custom fields against any resource, click on the button Add Custom Field and select Dropdown
  2. Specify the attributes for your dropdown custom field:
    1. Field Label: This is the name of your custom field as shown on the resource’s form
    2. Field Help Text: This is the help text that will appear for this field
    3. Hidden: Enable this toggle button if you want to hide this field from the resource form
    4. Required: Enable this toggle button if you make this field necessary to be filled on resource form
    5. Read Only: Enable this toggle button if you want this field to be uneditable from the resource form
    6. Choices: Specify the comma-separated choices available for this field
    7. Default Value: Specify the value that appears by default in this field. Make sure that this field has the same value as one of the Choices specified for this field
  3. After you have specified the necessary details, click Create
  4. A success notification will appear that your field has been added and you will be able to see it at the end of the list.

Adding an accordion type custom field

Accordion type custom field is useful to store and display multiple fields in a collapsible panel. You can add an accordion type custom field to any resource by following these steps but make sure that the fields to be added to the accordion are already created and present in the list.

  1. From your list of custom fields against any resource, click on the button Add Custom Field and select Accordion
  2. Specify the attributes for your accordion custom field:
    1. Field Label: This is the name of your custom field as shown on the resource’s form
    2. Field Help Text: This is the help text that will appear for this field
    3. Open: Enable this toggle button to show this accordion as open on every page load of the resource form. If you disable it, then it will show up as a closed panel
    4. Containing Fields: Select all the fields that you want to add to this accordion. If the field you wish to add to this accordion does not show up, then it is probably added to another accordion.
  3. After you have specified the necessary details, click Create
  4. A success notification will appear that your field has been added and you will be able to see it at the end of the list.
